SUMMARY:From Stereotype to Empathy to Inclusion: How Diversity can bring Strength to the LIS Workforce
DESCRIPTION:ALIA Multicultural is joining ALIA Disability to deliver a pre-conference workshop in ALIA National 2024. \nIn this workshop\, two ALIA special interest groups\, ALIA Multicultural and ALIA Disability\, join forces to explore diversity in the LIS workforce and the importance of learning from the Multicultural and Disability sectors when it comes to strengthening inclusion to the LIS profession. What are the daily challenges that library staff from diverse backgrounds face? Or those of us with hidden disabilities? Or perhaps both? \nThis interactive workshop will showcase a short video (vox pop) interviewing LIS professionals and then open for small group discussion with attendees followed by a sharing of the ideas generated. The session will conclude with a panel discussion on how we can all strive to improve and facilitate inclusion in our workplaces.
