ALIA Multicultural

The ALIA Multicultural Group was formed as a cross-sector group committed to advocacy and awareness of diversity and inclusion in the information sector.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Information sharing of research and best-practice. 
  • Advocacy for improved diversity and inclusion in the workforce including strong leadership pathways.
  • Access to professional development and support across sectors for diversity focussed professionals.
  • Advocacy for improved services for multicultural communities.
  • Professional development with a focus on Multicultural needs

Multicultural Consultant for Public Libraries.

State Library of NSW.

In her role as the Multicultural Consultant for Public libraries, she provides advice and support the development of multicultural library services within the State Library of NSW, and NSW public libraries. She represents the State Library of NSW in government and NGO organisations for the advancement, participation and settlement of migrants and refugees in NSW. Oriana manages the Multicultural Purchasing Cooperative that assist public libraries with the acquisition of materials in Languages other than English

Mare has a background in education, arts and libraries and has worked in School, Public and Academic libraries.

Mare is motivated by social justice and the transformative power of education.

They convened the Multicultural Special Interest group for Public Libraries Victoria from 2015 to 2018, developed a Conversation Cafe program and shared this resource with a wide network of libraries when working as a Multicultural and Diversity Librarian. 

Mare is also a member of the CAVAL CRIG group.

Team Leader and responsible for Multicultural services.

Merri-Bek Libraries, Victoria.

Rita has been working in multicultural services for the past 25 years and been an active member and past Convenor of the Public Libraries Victoria Multicultural Special Interest Group.

She set up the first Nepali collection in Victoria with consultation with community members.

Sandra has a long history working in Multicultural services, having been a Librarian in the Multicultural team at the State Library NSW and Multicultural Services Librarian at City of Parramatta Libraries.

She is passionate about meeting the literary needs of the CALD community and making libraries welcoming and accessible to all.
