Join the conversation as ALIA Multicultural is reignited. At our launch, hear from a number of speakers about the formation of the group and the history of Multicultural focus in libraries.

Join us for one of the most exciting library events of 2022 – the launch of ALIA Multicultural where the special guest will be Joseph Lo Bianco AM, Professor of Language and Literacy Education at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, University of Melbourne. The session will include an extended Q&A and the launch of the group website and a survey about what areas of focus the group might champion.

In this episode, Learning, Teaching and Research Librarian Michelle Matheson talks with Professor Catherine Gomes, an ethnographer whose research explores three interrelated areas: international student wellbeing, communication, culture and identity, and transient migrations. We hear from Professor Gomes about some of the misconceptions about international students, experiences that are commonly challenging, and approaches for supporting international students that are or could be undertaken at universities.
